Intensive EMDR Therapy

A Focused Approach to Trauma Processing

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy that helps the brain process and integrate distressing or traumatic experiences.

While EMDR is often delivered in weekly sessions, EMDR intensives offer a more focused format. Longer or multiple sessions are scheduled within a shorter period of time, allowing for deeper therapeutic work and continuity in the processing of difficult memories.

Why Choose an Intensive?

Some clients find that a concentrated format allows them to engage more fully in the therapeutic process.

EMDR intensives can:

  • Support deeper focus on specific memories or experiences
  • Reduce the disruption caused by long gaps between sessions
  • Allow meaningful therapeutic work to take place within a shorter timeframe

Each intensive is carefully structured to ensure that the work proceeds at a pace that feels safe and manageable.

What a Typical Intensive Looks Like

Before scheduling an intensive, we begin with an initial consultation and assessment to understand your goals and ensure that this format is appropriate for you.

Intensive EMDR sessions are typically 3-4 hours long, and are carried out over a few days during a week, giving you a condensed period of therapy compared with traditional weekly EMDR.

EMDR intensives can be particularly helpful for individuals who would benefit from a more focused and concentrated period of therapeutic work.

This approach may be well suited to people who:

  • Have experienced traumatic or distressing life events they would like to process more directly
  • Feel stuck in weekly therapy and would benefit from deeper, uninterrupted work
  • Want to focus on a specific memory, event, or theme that continues to affect them
  • Prefer to work through therapy in a shorter, more structured time-frame
  • Have busy professional or personal schedules that make regular weekly sessions difficult
  • Are traveling for therapy or live outside the local area
  • Have previously completed therapy and are seeking targeted work on a particular issue

An initial consultation helps determine whether this format is appropriate and ensures that the pace and structure of therapy are aligned with your needs.

Safety and Readiness for Intensive Work

EMDR intensives are carefully considered to ensure they are clinically appropriate for each individual.

The initial consultation allows us to assess readiness, discuss expectations, and ensure that you have the resources and supports needed for this format of therapy. For some individuals, weekly sessions may be the more suitable starting point, and this will always be discussed openly.

Your well-being, sense of safety, and therapeutic pacing remain central throughout the process.

EMDR intensives are currently only offered for adults.

Fees

Because intensives involve longer sessions, they involve a higher upfront fee. However, many clients find that the focused nature of this approach can reduce the overall number of sessions required compared to traditional weekly therapy.

Your intensive program will be costed at €220 per 90 minutes. Fees and available options will be discussed.
